Burlington Housing Authority Receives State Funding for HOPE Village Development
BURLINGTON, N.C. - Burlington Housing Authority (BHA) is pleased to announce that the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency has awarded funding through its Supportive Housing American Rescue Plan (SHARP) program to support the development of HOPE Village, a new housing initiative designed to address housing instability and expand affordable housing opportunities in Alamance County.
HOPE Village will create 12 new affordable rental homes in Burlington, including five duplexes located within a residential neighborhood, providing safe, stable housing for individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity.
The funding is part of more than $43 million awarded statewide by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency to support housing developments that serve North Carolinians with special housing needs and individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
"HOPE Village represents an important investment in both housing and hope for our community," said Veronica Revels, Chief Executive Officer of Burlington Housing Authority. "Stable housing is the foundation upon which individuals and families can build brighter futures. This development will provide quality housing while helping residents establish long-term stability and independence."
The project aligns with Burlington Housing Authority's mission of expanding affordable housing opportunities and strengthening the community through innovative housing solutions. By creating additional affordable rental homes, HOPE Village will help address the growing need for housing options in Alamance County while contributing to the overall well-being of residents.
"We are grateful to the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency for recognizing the importance of this project and for investing in communities like Burlington," said Charles Carter, Board Chair of the Burlington Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. "HOPE Village demonstrates what is possible when state and local partners work together to create meaningful solutions to housing challenges."
The SHARP program was created by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency to administer HOME-ARP funds appropriated through the American Rescue Plan Act. The program supports the development of housing and services that assist individuals and families experiencing homelessness and other forms of housing insecurity.
Development planning for HOPE Village is underway, and Burlington Housing Authority will provide additional updates as construction milestones and timelines are finalized.
